SUMMARY PAGES OF THE SITUATION IN COLOMBIA

This conflicting situation began already several years ago, in the decade of the 70 to be more necessary, when they were formed several guerilla groups, which were opposed the government to have different ideals. The guerilla groups based their acts on the premise that ¨ in the Colombian government is corruption and drug traffic ¨.

To manifest their opposition the groups they made along these years acts of vandalism, as kidnappings and slaughters; for example some months ago they kidnapped a replete airplane of passengers and they deviated it of their direction taking you gets a hundred of people that then took as hostages.

The dissident armed groups that are assets are even: the FARC (Revolutionary armed forces of Colombia); the ELN (Army of National Liberation); and the dissidents of the EPL (Popular Army of Liberation).

One of the worst consequences that carries this whole conflict is the great quantity of having mobilized that he/she took place. Different studies on the number of having displaced in Colombia offer estimates that vary from 700.000 to 1.200.000 people. All the sources, however, indicate that the last four years have been the worst in the history of the country. Those displaced include a disproportionate number of women, children and indigenous. Given the fact that the figures of having displaced have been increased exponentially, the national and international programs of attendance have not been able to satisfy all their necessities. The humanitarian attendance provided by the State has not satisfied the international norms of speed, effectiveness and neutrality, due to diverse reasons of political, bureaucratic nature and statistic.

At the moment the situation takes a different direction, since after having election in Colombia, the elect president (Andrés Pastrana) he/she decided to enter to the forest where the guerrilla is to negotiate with them.

After having begun the process of peace, the guerilla group ELN kidnapped to a thirty of parishioners of a church, after that which the government requested them that they liberated them without requesting an economic sum to change.

After this, the ELN promised to the government that you/they would not request rescue some, but after past some days it changed to seem, that made the government to break up all relationship with the guerrilla.
